Meet the Maker

Mise Tableware was founded by ceramicist Scott Pierce with a simple idea: tableware should be as intentional as the food it carries. As a production potter based in Vancouver, Scott hand-throws every piece with chefs in mind — durable, consistent, and designed for the pace of service. His drive is to create restaurant-quality tableware that brings a local and modern aesthetic to everyday dining, offering vessels that both highlight the food and reflect the identity of the kitchen they serve.

Project Spotlight: Liberty Bakery + Café

Liberty Bakery + Café Spotlight

In collaboration with Chef Elizabeth Starr

When Chef Elizabeth Starr of Liberty Bakery + Café approached me about creating custom tableware for the bakery, the goal was to develop pieces that felt timeless, refined, and distinctly Liberty. Together, we designed a collection of handmade plates that would complement the bakery's thoughtful approach to food while creating a unique dining experience for guests.

Each plate was individually thrown on the potter's wheel and finished by hand, balancing consistency for restaurant service with the subtle character that comes from true craftsmanship. The forms were intentionally simple and elegant, allowing the food to remain the focal point while adding warmth and authenticity to the table.

This collaboration reflects what I value most about working with chefs: creating functional objects that not only support service, but become a natural extension of a restaurant's identity and story.

Project Spotlight: Rustic Roast Cafe & Bar

In collaboration with Chef Jean Jacques Kabuya

When Chef Jean Jacques Kabuya of Rustic Roast Café & Bar approached me about creating custom tableware for the restaurant, the goal was clear: develop pieces that felt grounded, refined, and unmistakably their own.

Together, we designed a collection of co-branded plates and mugs that reflect the warmth and character of Rustic Roast while maintaining the clean, contemporary lines that define my studio practice. The plates were created to support service first and foremost; balanced in weight, durable for daily use, and proportioned to frame each dish without overpowering it. From brunch features to composed café plates, the forms were tailored to enhance presentation while standing up to the rhythm of a busy dining room.

The mugs were developed with equal intention. Thrown in a warm, speckled stoneware and finished with a comfortable, considered handle, each piece feels substantial in hand. The underside is custom-stamped with the Rustic Roast co-brand mark, reinforcing the restaurant’s identity in a subtle but lasting way.

This collaboration is a reflection of what I value most in restaurant partnerships: thoughtful dialogue, shared standards for quality, and the creation of objects that quietly elevate the dining experience.

Custom tableware is more than functional, it becomes part of the story a restaurant tells at every table.

Project Spotlight: WNDR Architecture + Design

WNDR Architecture + Design Spotlight

In collaboration with Hitesh Neb & Erik van der Putten

When Hitesh Neb and Erik van der Putten of WNDR Architecture + Design approached me about creating a custom gift for their annual client appreciation event, the goal was to develop something bold, memorable, and reflective of the firm's design-forward approach.

Together, we created a collection of handmade ceramic tumblers, each individually thrown on the potter's wheel and crafted from pigmented stoneware. The forms were intentionally modern and sculptural, featuring rich colour, texture, and subtle variation that ensured no two pieces were exactly alike.

Designed as a meaningful keepsake rather than a conventional corporate gift, the collection celebrates craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the value of creating lasting connections. Much like architecture itself, the project was rooted in the belief that well-considered objects can elevate everyday experiences and leave a lasting impression.

This collaboration was an opportunity to bring together two design disciplines, creating a collection of functional pieces that reflect creativity, attention to detail, and the importance of thoughtful making.
